Official grand opening, ribbon-cutting at OR Senior Center Tuesday

The City of Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department has scheduled a grand opening and ribbon cutting event at the new Oak Ridge Senior Center for Tuesday, October 15, beginning at 10 a.m.

Brief remarks will kick off the celebration, followed by a ribbon-cutting and cake and refreshments inside the new building. Everyone is invited to take a tour of the senior center and learn about the activities and programs offered for local seniors.

Informational tables will be set up throughout the building and representatives from Methodist Medical Center will be available in the Exercise Room for equipment demonstrations and health screenings. The event is expected to wrap up around noon.

“It is gratifying to see the tremendous efforts of so many individuals and organizations finally bring us to the opening of a new, dedicated facility built to serve senior citizens in the Oak Ridge community,” Recreation and Parks Director Jon Hetrick said. “City Council, City Administration, Senior Center staff, and the Senior Advisory Board have worked for decades to make this happen and we now look forward to serving the senior population for many more decades to come. Thanks are also due to Studio Four Design, Jenkins & Stiles Construction, the Oak Ridge Senior Foundation, and City staff from many departments who have worked together make this concept a reality.”

The new Senior Center facility is located at 1405 Oak Ridge Turnpike, next-door to the Oak Ridge Civic Center Recreation Building. A soft opening at the new building was held in late September to welcome guests into the new space while staff worked on the finishing touches.

Questions can be directed to the Oak Ridge Senior Center front desk at (865) 425-3999.
