MENCS: Elliott dominates at Watkins Glen

(MRN) Chase Elliott put on a dominating performance in Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Go Bowling at The Glen to win for the second straight season at Watkins Glen International.

Elliott led 80 of the day’s 90 laps and swept the first two stages before taking his second checkered flag of the 2019 season.

“That was freaking awesome,” said Elliott. “What a day, we had such a fast NAPA Camaro and these guys called a great race. Track position was king and didn’t mess up into 1 this time, so that was good.”

Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, Erik Jones and Ryan Blaney rounded out the top five.

“I did all I could,” Truex Jr. said. “Chase did an excellent job, all I could do was get to about 2 car lengths and try to force a mistake. His car was fast and right in the key areas he needed to be. We were just kind of stuck there, which was unfortunate.”

Matt DiBenedetto, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson, Brad Keselowski and Kurt Busch completed the first 10 finishers.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series now heads to Michigan International Speedway next Sunday afternoon.
