Rocky Top fire investigated

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department is looking into the cause of a fire at an abandoned house near Rocky Top on Sunday night.

Deputies responded to the home at 114 Wiley Cemetery Lane shortly before 9 pm on Sunday and reported that the building was fully involved. Deputy Adam Warren also reported that since the house was so close to the treeline that several trees were also on fire.

Firefighters from the Medford Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the fire.

Neighbors told deputies that the house had been abandoned for several years, and Deputy Warren was unable to immediately locate any information identifying the owner of the house.

The case has been sent to detectives for follow-up.
