3 injured in LaFollette wreck

Three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday when an 18-wheeler and a van crashed in front of Woodson Mall in LaFollette.

The accident occurred shortly after 11 am when the driver of the van, 68-year-old Marcella Coots of Speedwell, tried to turn in front of the empty coal truck driven by 58–year-old John Burgans of Alabama. The tractor-trailer was unable to stop and crashed into the front passenger side of the van, trapping 18-year-old Jacob Richardson of Speedwell inside. He was freed and flown to UT Medical Center, where he was treated and later released. Coots and Burgans were both treated for their injuries at LaFollette Medical Center.
