Rocky Top kicks off monthly art nights at Community Center

(Rocky Top press release) The City of Rocky Top is excited to announce that the Rocky Top Community Center will be holding FREE monthly art nights free for both kids and adults. The City has created an Appalachian Arts Program through the Creative Placemaking Grant they received from the TN Arts Commission.

Our first event will be our D.A.R.E to Be Different Kickoff on March 13th from 6:00-7:30 P.M. Kids will create a D.A.R.E themed poster to be judged by our Rocky Top Police Department. Prizes will be awarded! We will also have free popcorn and cotton candy available to anyone who attends. All supplies will be provided. Participant registration will begin at 5:45 P.M. Kids classes will be held every second Tuesday of the month.

Our second class will be geared toward those ages 15 & up. This will be a two-part class on March 27 from 6:00-7:30 P.M. and April 24 from 6:00-7:30 P.M. Bonnie Shelton and Lisa Pebley from Smoky Mountain Porcelain Artists will be teaching the “Dogwood Blossoms” class. This class will be limited to 15 seats. You can sign up at the kick off on March 13th or at City Hall through March 26th. Registration will be on a first-come first-served basis. A wait-list will be utilized, if necessary. Adult classes will be held every fourth Tuesday of the month.

In addition to the arts classes, thanks to a generous donation from the Rocky Top Police Department through the D.A.R.E program, the gym will have new equipment! Open play hours will be from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings and on Saturdays from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.! Children 10 & under must be supervised by a parent or guardian.

We are very excited to be able to better serve the community and its citizens by providing quality programming and events! Keep an eye out for a schedule of activities in the upcoming weeks! If you or someone you know has time or talent to share and would be willing to teach classes or activities, please contact Ally Smiddy or Kari Hancock at 865-426-2838.
