ORT: Roane Commissioner from Oak Ridge passes away

According to our partners at Oak Ridge Today, Roane County Commissioner Steve Kelley, an Oak Ridge resident, died Wednesday February 21st at the age of 63.

Kelley represented District 4 on the Roane County Commission., which includes the Oak Hills, Oliver Springs, and Orchard View voting precincts.

Kelley was elected in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014.

District 4 has two commissioners, with James Brummett of Oliver Springs filling the other seat.

It’s not clear if the Roane County Commission will discuss filling Kelley’s seat at its next meeting. The commission will meet on the third Monday of March, as opposed to the second Monday, at 7 p.m. at the Roane County Courthouse in Kingston.

Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston is handling the arrangements. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, at Kyker Funeral Home at 350 West Race Street in Kingston. There will be a memorial service later.
