District tournaments winding down

District basketball tournaments across East Tennessee are winding down.

Tuesday, in District 4AAA action, Catholic’s boys took third place with a 77-64 win over William Blount. The Irish will head to Oak Ridge Saturday for the first round of Region play while William Blount will play at Powell.

The D4AAA boys’ championship went to Bearden, 67-58, over Maryville. Bearden will host Karns on Saturday while Maryville will host Anderson County, once coached by Rebels’ coach Mark Eldridge.

The District 4AA championships were both played last night. In the girls’ title game, Alcoa manhandled Fulton 53-18 and in the boys’ championship tilt, it was Alcoa winning a much closer game over Fulton, 57-56.

The District 3AA girls’ champions are Gatlinburg-Pittman, 69-62 winners over Carter, while the boys’ champion is Carter, which downed Union County 81-54.

At the District 3A tournament, Rockwood’s boys took third by beating Coalfield 65-41, while Oakdale beat Harriman for the championship 55-43.

The District 2A boys’ consolation game saw Hancock County handle Jellico 70-49 and the championship game saw Greenback beat Cosby 61-54.
