CWTS: Sauter takes checkers in season-opener

(MRN) Johnny Sauter passed David Gilliland for his final lead of the race nine laps from the finish and kept his G-M-S Racing Chevrolet in front the rest of the way to claim victory on Friday night at Daytona International Speedway. It’s Sauter’s eighteenth Truck Series win and second in three years at Daytona. With Kaz Grala’s victory in last year’s season opener, G-M-S Racing has now won three straight at “The World Center of Racing.” Sauter’s margin of victory over runner-up Justin Haley was nine one-hundredths of a second. Joe Nemechek grabbed third place with Ben Rhodes and Scott Lagasse Junior completing the top five.

Sauter started second in the thirty-two-truck field and led a race-high thirty-nine laps.
