Body found in Speedwell, investigation underway

Authorities in Campbell County are investigating unidentified human remains found in the Speedwell area.

Deputies were dispatched to 2013 Hollow Road in Speedwell to investigate. They said a person led them to the location of the badly decomposed body in a mountainous, wooded area.

Officials say that this is still a preliminary investigation and that it’s not believed that the remains are related to any active missing persons investigations within their jurisdiction.

Due to the state of the remains, authorities have not determined gender, race or age, but hope to get some of those questions answered by the medical examiner’s office, which will perform an autopsy.

The TBI is working with the Campbell County’s Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.
