THP: Single-vehicle crash kills Kingston man

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says that speed likely played a role in a fatal one-car accident Friday night in Roane County.

The THP reports that the crash happened at around 9:45 pm Friday on Gallaher Road in Kingston.

Trooper Paul Dubroc reported that 29-year-old Austin Owens of Kingston had been traveling north on Gallaher at what the trooper described as a “high rate of speed” in a 2102 Chrysler 300 sedan when the car went off the right side of the road and hit an embankment, causing it to become airborne. The car slammed into a tree and came to rest.

Owens, who was wearing a seat belt, died in the crash. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

The report indicates that alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors in Friday night’s deadly accident.
