XFS: Blaney passes Harvick late, wins at CMS

(MRN)  Ryan Blaney got the jump on race leader Kevin Harvick on the day’s final restart to claim victory Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway as Monster Energy Series drivers continue to dominate the early months of the 2017

X-finity Series. Cup Series drivers have now won eight of the first ten races and swept the top three spots on Saturday with Harvick finishing second and Austin Dillon third. Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin completed the top five. Blaney led a race-high 107 laps. In fact, X-finity Series regulars led just eleven of the two hundred laps: seven for pole winner Justin Allgaier, three for Darrell Wallace Junior and one for B-J McLeod. Blaney started third, grabbed his first lead about a quarter of the way into the race and was strong throughout the second half – leading more than half of the final hundred laps en route to his fifth career win. The margin of victory was twenty-four one-hundredths of a second over runner-up Harvick.

Blaney’s victory is the second straight at C-M-S for Team Penske. Joey Logano won last fall’s three hundred-miler. Team owner Roger Penske is now tied for second place on the track’s all-time win list with six, sharing that spot with Joe Gibbs.
