Roane wreck kills Harriman woman

A Roane County accident claimed the life of a 62-year-old woman on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that 62-year-old Debra Alexander of Harriman had been driving west on Sugar Grove Valley Road at around 4:30 pm when she lost control of her car on the slick road and slid, crossing into the eastbound lanes and colliding with a car driven by 22-year-old Nicole Bashant of Harriman.

Alexander’s Hyundai then left the roadway and came to rest after hitting a utility pole.

Alexander died in the crash and Bashant was uninjured. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and while drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the wreck, blood tests have been requested as is standard procedure in any fatal accident.
