BREAKING: Relay for Life of Anderson County MOVED due to forecasted rain

Due to the high probability of rain the forecast for Friday night, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Anderson County scheduled for May 5th at Melton Lake Park has been MOVED to 97 Midway Road (Lane) in Oak Ridge.

The Cancer Society’s signature annual fundraising event will still be held from 5 to 11 pm on Friday but will be moved indoors to 97 Midway Road in Oak Ridge.

Registration of cancer survivors wishing to participate in the Survivor Ceremony begins at 4:30 pm with the opening ceremonies and the Parade of Teams at 5:30 pm. The Survivors’ Ceremony and Survivors’ Victory Lap will begin at 6 pm, followed by musical entertainment from Barry Jolly at 6:30 pm and a live auction with Zach Farrar at 7 pm. During the live auction, attendees will have a chance to bid on items including, but not limited to:

  • A 2008 Ford Escape,
  • A 2007 Chevy Cobalt
  • $500 towards a set of new tires from Ray Varner Ford,
  • A Pigeon Forge Fun Pack that includes Dollywood tickets and tickets to Tennessee Smokies baseball, plus tickets to a wide variety of attractions, unique experience packages, Lady Vol basketball tickets and much, much more.

Local band Shackdaddy will perform at 7:30 pm and the first-ever Twilight 5K Run & Walk will go on as scheduled at Melton Lake Park, but again all other Relay activities will be held at 97 Midway Road in Oak Ridge.

The Tenos will perform at 8:30 pm with the Luminaria ceremonyat 9:30 honoring cancer survivors, those fighting the disease and those who have lost their battles with cancer.

Throughout the evening, there will be kids’ activities like a bounce house, face painting and a dunking booth, plus a cornhole tournament, and chances for teams and attendees to win some neat prizes.

All evening long, Relay teams will be selling food like tacos, beef stew, hot dogs & chili, pizza, fruit kabobs, snow cones and much more, plus a food truck from Pit Barbecue will be there.

All of the proceeds raised during the Relay for Life of Anderson County will stay right here at home to provide services to cancer patients and their families, educate the public about cancer and, of course to fund research into a cure.

Closing ceremonies will be held at 10:30 pm Friday. Again, the 2017 American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Anderson County will be held Friday May 5th from 5 to 11 pm at a brand-new location, 97 Midway Road in Oak Ridge.
