XFS: Allgaier wins for first time since 2012

(MRN) Justin Allgaier put the field in his rear-view mirror on the day’s final restart Saturday at Phoenix Raceway, darting away to the victory which ended a five-year winless streak. Allgaier started fifth in the Number-7 Junior Motorsports Chevrolet and led a race-high eighty-five laps, including the final nineteen trips around the one-mile desert oval, in notching his fourth career victory but first since August 2012 in Montreal. The margin of victory was three-quarters of a second over runner-up Ryan Blaney with Erik Jones, rookie William Byron and points leader Elliott Sadler completing the top five. Allgaier, Byron and Sadler gave Junior Motorsports three of the top five finishing positions. Byron had started from the pole but failed to lead a lap en route to his fourth-place finish … Allgaier collected a one hundred thousand-dollar bonus for winning the opening race of this year’s “Dash-4-Cash” promotion that continues next month in Bristol, Tennessee.
