Man arrested for ‘huffing’ in park

A Clinton man was arrested last Friday after allegedly huffing from a can of Blow-Off Duster, commonly used to clean computer keyboards, at Jaycee Park.

Officer Kirk Sliger responded to the park on Friday March 24th at around 2:30 pm on a report of a suspicious person. As Sliger pulled up, he spotted a man later identified as David Dwayne Ijames sitting on the ground next to a picnic table inhaling from the aerosol bottle of dust cleaner. As Sliger approached, he watched as Ijames fell backwards and laid on the ground, described as “unaware of his surroundings.” Sliger took the nearly-empty bottle of duster and tried to speak with Ijames, who had “very slurred speech,” was “very confused and could not get off the ground” due to his intoxication.

Sliger ran Ijames’ name through dispatch and the check returned an active probation violation warrant for Ijames, who was taken to the Anderson County Jail and charged with public intoxication, unlawful use of inhalants and the probation violation. He was released later that same day after posting a $1200 bond.
