HS hoops season over; Harriman reigns supreme, Irish leave disappointed

Wrapping up the high school basketball season, boys’ state championships were decided Saturday at MTSU.

The Class A championship went to Harriman, as the Blue Devils outlasted Clay County 74-73, to win the school’s first title since 1995. Hayden Bingham scored 29 to lead Harriman (33-6) and Isaiah McClain his jumper with 1:03 to play that gave the Blue Devils a lead they would not surrender and hit a couple of free throws with :17 left that gave Harriman the cushion it would need.

In the AA title game, Catholic’s dream season ended with a 60-57 loss to Maplewood, a day after advancing to the finals on a buzzer-beater from Luke Smith in a Friday semifinal.

The AAA title went to Memphis East 65-45 over Southwind. The Mustangs advanced to the title game after a classic semifinal showdown with Oak Ridge they escaped from with a 60-57 win.
