Rocky Top man indicted in fatal Campbell crash

A Rocky Top man was indicted last week by a Campbell County grand jury on charges related to the death of his girlfriend in a single-car crash in October.

28-year-old Michael Alan Chesney was indicted on charges of vehicular homicide and DUI in connection the October 2016 crash on Jacksboro Pike that killed Kristian Leach.

Chesney was driving a Pontiac Firebird when it left the road and slammed into a utility pole, killing Leach.

Chesney denied to investigators that he had been under the influence at the time of the crash but admitted to having been up all night the previous night “partying and drinking,” and failed all of the field sobriety tests given to him. Despite that, he claimed he had simply fallen asleep.

He has been in custody since late last year.
