Now ex-Roane janitor facing rape charges

A woman who had been working as a janitor at Midway High School in Roane County has been charged with statutory rape.

29-year-old Jessica Galyon is facing charges of sexual battery by an authority figure, aggravated statutory rape and statutory rape by an authority figure. Court records indicate that she engaged in sexual contact with a minor between 13 and 18 years of age while in a position of authority over them.

The Roane County Sheriff’s Office began in October when investigators were tipped off that she had been sending and receiving inappropriate messages to the teen through social media.

She was arrested on Thursday and was later released on a $15,000 bond.

School leaders say that Galyon was not employed by the county but rather by a contractor and that she has now been banned from all school property.
