A Rocky Top couple was arrested Friday after deputies looking to serve a warrant on a wanted man discovered drugs in their car.
Anderson County deputies had gone to a house on Lake City Highway to serve an arrest warrant on a man believed to be at that location. Deputies took 22-year-old Roy Chapman into custody on charges of domestic assault and aggravated assault and transported him to the Anderson County Jail, where he remained in custody as of Tuesday morning.
While on the scene, deputies made contact with the occupants of a car parked in the driveway of the home and smelled marijuana from inside the vehicle. Deputies checked Russell Jerrell and Amber Jerrell, both of Rocky Top, for warrants, and got a hit on Russell on a probation violation warrant for his arrest in Anderson County. During a subsequent search of their car, officers reported finding three syringes loaded with a clear liquid described in the report as “opana,” a prescription pain medication. Russell Jerrell admitted they were his, according to the arrest report.
Both Jerrells were arrested and taken to the Anderson County Jail. He is charged with the probation violation as well as simple possession and possession of drug paraphernalia and remains in custody on bonds totaling $25,000. She was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and released after posting a $1000 bond.
The clear liquid was sent to the TBI crime lab for analysis and identification.
