Man pleads in fondling case

A Briceville man pleaded guilty Monday in Anderson County Criminal Court on a charge that he had fondled a five-year-old girl at a Rocky Top grocery store.

33-year-old Timothy Robert Braden was originally charged with aggravated sexual battery in the incident, which occurred in May of 2015, but entered a best interest plea to an amended charge of attempted aggravated sexual battery.

Braden pleaded guilty to fondling a five-year-old girl inside the Shop Rite in Rocky Top while the child’s mother was distracted by a conversation with someone else.

Braden has been in custody since his arrest last July. In exchange for his plea, Braden was sentenced to six years behind bars and will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. He was also ordered to stay away from his victim and ordered to stay out of the Shop Rite. He will have to serve 30% of his sentence before he can be considered for parole.
