Local Sports Update 5/26

The Spring Fling continued in Murfreesboro on Wednesday and while some area teams stayed alive, others headed home last night.

In Class AAA baseball, Sevier County was eliminated with two losses on Wednesday: 11-0 to Summit and 10-0 to Siegel. Farragut staved off elimination in their first game of the day, beating Ravenwood 7-3, but the Admirals were eliminated later in the day with a 9-4 loss to Stewarts Creek.

In Class AA, Milan eliminated Greeneville 4-2 and CAK was eliminated after losing 3-1 to CPA and 6-2 to Chester County.

In Class A, Meigs County was eliminated by Gordonsville 7-6 but Grace Christian remained perfect through the first two days of play with a 12-7 win over Jackson Christian. Grace and Jackson Christian will play later today for the right to play for the state title Friday.

On the softball diamond, Gibbs opened up AAA play with 5-1 win over Arlington but were sent to the losers bracket by Siegel 7-1. Gibbs faces Brighton Thursday morning in an elimination game.

In AA, CAK downed White House Heritage 8-2 and will face Waverly this afternoon.

In Class A, Meigs County beat Summertown 11-3 and will face Marion County for the right to play for a state title tonight. Midway stayed alive, eliminating Forrest 7-3, and will face Summertown in an elimination game Thursday afternoon.

On the soccer pitch, Bearden will play for a AAA state championship after beating Station Camp 4-1 in overtime. The Bulldogs will play Ravenwood Friday night.

In Class A/AA, CAK blanked Greeneville 5-0 and will face CPA Friday for the state championship.

In Southern League baseball, the Tennessee Smokies dropped the first of their five games at Chattanooga 6-2. The series continues through Sunday in Chattanooga.
