TBI investigating Anderson inmate death

The TBI is investigating the death of a woman while in custody at the Anderson County Jail last week. District Attorney General Dave Clark requested the TBI investigate the death of 58-year-old Princess Shifflett, who died on Thursday. The TBI says that Shifflett had “some sort of medical emergency” on Thursday while in custody on a probation violation and died at a hospital after being transported there by emergency workers.

The TBI said Monday that an autopsy has performed, the preliminary results of which indicate no foul play in Shifflett’s death and said that the cause of death will be determined pending the full results of that autopsy. She had been booked into the jail on the probation violation the day before her death. We will update you on the investigation as events warrant.
