Morgan murder investigated by TBI

The TBI is investigating the Monday morning death of a man at a Coalfield business. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office responded to Allied Metal Recovery and Refining on Gouge Hollow Road shortly before 6:30 am after someone called about a dead man at the business.

The TBI was called in by Ninth District Attorney General Russell Johnson to investigate the man’s death as a homicide.

While the victim’s name has not been released by authorities, family members say that he was 71-year-old Pete McCarroll and that he had left for work at Allied less than an hour before his death.

Sources tell us that he may have been struck with a shovel. As more information becomes available, we will pass it along to you.
