Local Sports Update April 29th

Here is a look at Thursday’s local sports scoreboard.

On the high school baseball diamond, Webb downed Anderson County 12-3; Bearden blanked Oak Ridge at Farragut 3-0; Farragut beat Gibbs 6-5; Union County goy by Cumberland Gap 2-1; Rockwood shut out Oliver Springs 12-0; Harriman swept a doubleheader from Scott County, winning 3-2 and 6-5; and it was West taking both ends of a doubleheader from Oakdale, 8-0 and 9-0.

On the softball diamond, Union County Handled Karns 8-2.

On the soccer pitch, Powell nipped Anderson County 3-2 and Campbell County shut out Halls 2-0.

In Southern League baseball action, the Tennessee Smokies’ five-game winning streak ended in the opener of their series at Biloxi Thursday, falling to the Shuckers 6-5.

In the NFL, the Tennessee Titans moved up one spot in the Draft Thursday and selected Michigan State offensive tackle Jack Conklin with the 8th pick to help shore up what was a seive-like offensive line a year ago. The Draft continues tonight in Chicago.

The Nashville Predators open their second round Western Conference playoff series against the San Jose Sharks tonight at 10:30 pm on NBCSN from San Jose.

Tune in this weekend for a doubleheader of NASCAR racing from the Talladgea Superspeedway. Saturday at 2:30 pm, WYSH and WQLA will have live coverage of the Xfinity Series Sparks Energy 300 and on Sunday at noon, the Sprint Cup Series heads to Talladega for the GEICO 500 on WYSH, WQLA and Merle FM.
