Clinton crash injures motorcyclist

A traffic accident late Monday morning in South Clinton sent one man to the hospital by Lifestar.

The crash occurred just before 11 am Monday on Clinch Avenue in front of the Icon Market. Clinton Police say that 54-year-old John Aulton of Clinton had been headed north on Clinch on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when a southbound Cadillac sedan driven by 75-year-old Billy Ashe of Clinton tried to turn left into the market. His car ended up in the path of Aulton’s motorcycle and even though Aulton reportedly tried to stop, he struck the right front side of the Cadillac and was thrown off the bike.

Aulton suffered injuries to his leg and neck as well as cuts and bruises. He was flown to UT Medical Center in Knoxville by Lifestar. As of last night, Clinton Police Chief Rick Scarbrough said that Aulton was listed in serious condition at UT. Ashe was not injured in the crash and the accident report makes no mention of any citations or charges stemming from the accident.

The Clinton Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene as did the Anderson County EMS.
