Boat, truck & trailer roll into river; no serious injuries

(Information from Oak Ridge Today) A man was taken to the hospital after he waded into the chilly waters of the Clinch River Thursday afternoon to save a child from going into the water when a pickup truck, boat, and trailer rolled backward into the river at Solway Park. The man was pulling the boat out of the water when authorities say that a young child in the cab knocked the vehicle out of gear, causing the truck and a boat and trailer that were attached to roll into the water shortly before 5 pm Thursday.
The man waded into the water and rescued the child, who was not injured. The man got cold from being in the water and was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
The small fishing boat, the Chevrolet pickup truck, and the trailer floated about 25 feet from shore at the boat launch and then sank. Firefighters in a boat were able to use long pipe poles to feed a cable through the windows of the submerged truck to allow it be pulled out of the water by a tow truck around 8:10 p.m. Thursday.
