TVA releases design options, comments on Bull Run ash storage facility

TVA has released design options and over 20 pages of public comments collected over the summer on its plans for a future dry storage area for ash and other coal combustion residuals at the Bull Run Fossil Plant in Claxton. The document is referred as a “scoping document” and is titled “Disposal of Coal Combustion residuals from the Bull Run Fossil Plant” and identifies issues and alternatives to be considered as part of an Environmental Impact Statement for the project. A draft impact statement will be released in the summer of 2016 with another public comment period and the final report is due sometime in 2017. TVA says that its final decision on how to proceed with construction and management of the new storage area will depend on numerous factors, including results of the Environmental Impact Statement, engineering and risk evaluations and cost.
