Fire kills cat

A cat was killed in a fire at a single-wide mobile home on Dutch Valley Road Wednesday night. The fire occurred at 2665 Dutch Valley Road and was reported shortly after 11:30 pm. By the time deputies from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene, the blaze had been extinguished by the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department. The trailer’s owner told investigators he had seen flames coming out the window in the kitchen/living room area and firefighters said that the damage seemed to center on a small refrigerator. According to the Sheriff’s incident report, there was a pile of clothing and a broken lamp in the debris as well as the body of a cat. The owner told deputies that a window of the trailer was cracked and that the back door pulled open easily when he pulled on it, but said the padlock on that door was still locked after the fire. The exact cause of the fire is unknown and the Criminal Investigation Division will be looking into it. There were no reports of injuries to people and damage was estimated to be around $1000.
