Report: ATLC, ORNL reach tentative labor agreement

According to the News-Sentinel, negotiators for ORNL managing contractor UT-Battelle, and the Atomic Trades Labor Council, representing 13 unions and about 700 hourly workers at the lab, reached a tentative agreement Tuesday on a new five-year contract. Union leaders say they will recommend that the rank-and-file at ORNL ratify the proposed contract. Voting on the contract is reportedly scheduled for 12:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, at the Machinists Union Hall, 101 E. Lincoln Road, in Oak Ridge. Negotiations took place over the past couple of weeks. UT-Battelle approached the ATLC about beginning contract talks, even though the existing agreement isn’t due to expire until April 1, 2016.
