Red bell missing; reward offered

An Oak Ridge real estate company is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the return of a 150-pound, bright red, cast iron bell from in front of its offices across from the city’s municipal building on Tulane Avenue.  Tom and Peggy Hanrahan are co-owners of Peggy Sells Homes-Realty Center and they say that the bell was taken sometime late Friday or early Saturday. The bell is valued at between $1000 and $1500 but also has sentimental value as it was given to the company by the son of what they described on Facebook as a “prominent Oak Ridger” after Peggy Hanrahan sold the family home. Due to the size of the bell, which was rung every time a deal was finalized, they believe it took at least two people to remove it from its housing and carry it to whatever vehicle was used to spirit it away. If you have any information on the whereabouts of the bell or the circumstances surrounding its disappearance, please call the Oak Ridge PD at 865-425-4399 or Realty Center at 865-482-8200.
