ACSD probing suspicious fire

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a suspicious fire at a vacant home on Country Lane. The fire was reported at around 1:30 pm Sunday at 145 Country Lane and destroyed the structure despite the efforts of the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department. Brenda Arms told deputies that the house had belonged to her late father-in-law but that it had been vacant for some time and was “falling apart.” She said the property now belongs to her three children. Arms told investigators she does not believe that the fire was intentionally set. There was no electricity hooked up at the house and the structure was not insured. Due to the lack of electricity as a possible contributing factor, deputies referred the case to the Criminal Investigation Division for follow-up.
