Man drowns in Roane

A 20-year-old Harriman man drowned Saturday night while fishing with his father and his girlfriend on Watts Bar Lake. Authorities identify the victim as Dustin Branson and say that he had been fishing at the Caney Creek boat ramp and dock across from Roane County Park when he jumped into the water to retrieve a fishing pole that had fallen in. After making a couple of attempts to retrieve the gear, Branson did not surface. His father tried to save his son, but Dustin Branson’s body was found a short time later by members of the Roane County Rescue Squad.
